“We practically can’t do anything without judging. Say, a flower - is it pretty? You almost can’t look at a flower without evaluating it. It’s very hard for you to sit and just be here and let all this stuff happen without judging. Is it good? Is it right? Is it wrong? Will it help me? That’s part of the trap. And so, what gets really exquisite is when you start to watch your own thoughts, and you realize that they’re like birds flying across the blue sky. And when you realise that and you’re finally along on the journey, you’ll notice that your mind is completely empty - mindlessly floating along. It’s all happening. It’s all happening. Oh … wow … No doer, it’s just happening!”
Ram Dass
“Love flows. Love doesn’t know boundaries. The mind creates boundaries. The mind creates the boundary of separate me and you. The heart just keeps embracing and opening out.”
Ram Dass
“To achieve freedom requires only two things: a silent mind and an open heart.”

In Asian languages, the word for ‘mind’ and the word for ‘heart’ are the same word. So when we hear the word ‘mindfulness’, we have to inwardly also hear ‘heartfulness’ in order to grasp it even as a concept, and especially as a way of being.

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.”
Deepak Chopra (via elige)
“The mind always wants to go on and on, because that is its very lifeblood. Stopping, even for a single moment, the mind dies. And the death of the mind is the birth of you. While the mind has power over you, you are not born yet.”

“It is my mind, with its store of images, that gives the world color and sound; and that supremely real and rational certainty which I can “experience” is, in its most simple form, an exceedingly complicated structure of mental images. Thus there is, in a certain sense, nothing that is directly experienced except the mind itself. Everything is mediated through the mind, translated, filtered, allegorized, twisted, even falsified by it. We are … enveloped in a cloud of changing and endlessly shifting images.”
C.G. Jung (via creativedreadhead)
“We are caught up in this bizarre habit of assuming that there is an “I.” Yet the definition of this seemingly permanent thing has to keep constantly changing to keep up the illusion in an impermanent world. This takes up a lot of mental time and is continually frustrating to the mind, as it takes so much constant work and effort. This process is called ignorance, i.e. the illusion of an “I” and thus that everything else is “not I.”
“Fundamentally, meditation is what the mind does when it’s not being tampered with.”
